White Fillings: These fillings are preferred to the old amalgam (silver) fillings. Modern white fillings compare well in durability to the amalgams and look much better. They have the added advantage of bonding to the tooth structure.
Crowns and Bridges: These restorations replace the crown (top) part of the tooth and can also replace missing teeth. Crowns and bridges are fixed restorations and cannot be removed like dentures.
Dentures: Dentures replace missing teeth, from one to all the teeth. Charl du Toit use a Master Technician, Mr John Davies, as part of the team when making dentures. The life-like dentures are a favourite option.
Dental Implants: Implants are artificial roots that are placed in the jaw bone by a specialist. Charl du Toit then attaches an artificial tooth to the implant. This is a very popular tooth replacement method. Implants may also be used to retain dentures. Please see www.bicon.co.uk.
Gum treatment: There are oral hygienists on site to help with all gum problems. Minor gum surgery might be done by Charl du Toit or patients might be referred to a gum specialist (Periodontist).
Dental Cosmetics: Many different methods of cosmetic dentistry can be done. Bleaching makes teeth whiter. Veneers are like false nails for teeth. They are porcelain coverings that can change the shape and/or colour of your teeth.
Facial Cosmetics: Many patients do not only want to better the appearance of their smiles but also want to reduce the lines on their faces for a more youthfull appearance. If you are interested in Botox (vistabel) or fillers (restalyne), Dr du Toit can arrange for a qualified GP to come to the practice to do the treatment.
Jaw Joint Problems (TMJ): The letters TMJ are short for ‘temporo-mandibular joint’, which is the joint connecting your lower jaw to your skull. If your teeth do not fit together properly or if there is an imbalance between where your teeth bite together and where your jaw joints have their rest position, problems might occur. These problems are called ‘occlusal’ problems or some people call it ‘TMJ problems’
Root Canal Treatment: Root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury. You may not feel any pain in the early stages of the infection. In some cases, your tooth could darken in colour before or after the treatment.
